This past Saturday, the Dottie Hottie family netted itself a surprise parking ticket at UMass Boston. It is usually our custom to go and park along the perimeter of the parking lanes –even though the signage would indicate this is a No Parking Zone. Dozens of fisherfolk do it on the weekends and we have never had a problem or faced Johnny Law telling us otherwise, because it was the weekend.
But signs exist for a reason, hey?
We did receive a lovenote from Johnny Law, aka “Officer McGillicutty” on Saturday for parking in the no park zone. The lovenote came with a cost of $5. The real “p.s. I love you” comes in the return address of the ticket. Take a look-see:

We are to remit our payment to the UMASS Boston Parking Ticket Scholarship Fund. Can you dig it? I mean, let’s ALL park illegally now, it’s for the good of the needy scholars! Do your part, won’t you, Dotties? Park n’ donate and give yourselves something to feel good about. Think of the children.

The Dottie Hottie’s greatest fear of going into labor on Patriot’s Day was allayed. The threat of having to ferret through the crunch of Marathon traffic in order to get to the hospital manifested itself…and the Dottie Hottie considered the feasible ways one might arrive at the hospital (by parachute? through the MIT tunnels?) but Pee Wee Dottie chose not to appear. Hurrah! This gave the Dottie Hottie family a chance to check out the excellent puppetry show at the JFK Library, and find a patriotic treat at the Sugar Bowl.

Earlier this month, 19 community relations students at Boston University took some big steps with some small feet.
They hosted “Small Feet, Big Steps” at Dorchester’s own Roger Clap Elementary School. The event was intended to motivate the middle schoolers to achieve its Bay State Games’ Kid’s Fitness Challenge.
Asks the Dottie Hottie, how could you NOT be motivated by this program!?!
It included:
- a motivational lecture from 2010 Australian Olympic Women’s Skeleton Team Head Coach Terry Holland
- dance and sports sessions with BU students and a healthy snack.
- a $300 donation to the school

Dozens of knitties from the Dot and beyond decided to ditch and stitch this past Sunday in celebration of the Stitch House’s first birthday! The store was bopping with patrons and the caterers were busying with omelets and the shelves were brimming with beautiful yarns and WHERE WERE YOU?!?
If you haven’t visited the Stitch House, a veritable buffet of color and cashmere awaits you. Owner Annissa says she is constantly told her store is so cute and “it looks just like Newbury Street,” to which she can be overheard answering, “Yeah! And all of Dorchester Ave. should freaking look like this!”
The Dottie Hottie heartily agrees.
Happy First Birthday, Stitch House, you are a wonderful toddler in the playpen that is The Dot!

Could this place be any cuter?

Remember that “Designing Women” where Delta Burke sticks her finger into a feller’s coffee and asks, “Sugar?” The Dottie Hottie wonders if that was the inspiration for The Sugar Bowl. Because sugar in all forms will you find behind the counter of this corner ice cream/coffee shop right on the border of Dot/Southie. And most especially, you will find some sugar in the service. The employees appear to be former cheerleaders who are drumming up big business with their wide smiles, adorable accents. It feels like the Coyote Ugly of coffee shops. Without the dancing on the bar part.
While there, the Dottie Hottie sampled an ice cream sundae. The ice cream is Brigham’s (it’s made at the hospital cafeteria, right?), the fudge wasn’t spectacular. But the prices are reasonable and the shop was very clean. Haven’t tried the coffee yet, but will be back. Skim milk, one sugar, please and thank you.
